CHANGING SPACES

The kitchen table has a new cloth
printed with brown mushrooms
but I do not know if you will sit at it.

The old sink has been bleached
because you said it was ugly
but I do not know if I will wash your dishes.

The bed is near the window
where the birds sing on the fire escape
but I do not know if you will sleep next to me.

I am trying to change myself.
This changing is necessary
with or without you although
the changing brought you to me.

I want you to enter this space
I am fixing to fit myself
yet I do not know if you are coming back.
